The company:

The company is a young Belgian company on a mission to revolutionize the life sciences and pharmacological research market with innovative real-time, label-free analysis products. The basis of our success is a novel fiber-optic-based surface plasmon resonance biosensor which enables our users to generate high quality biomolecular data accurately, fast, cost-effective, and in a wide application area. 

They currently employ about 10 people in our offices in Diepenbeek, Belgium. They will be expanding rapidly over the next months and they're looking for ambitious professionals to join their team. 

Job description:

The senior system engineer is a member of the R&D team reporting directly to the CTO. In your role you will be an important driving force in generating and implementing technical solutions ensuring that the products deliver the functionality, quality and performance their customers expect. 

Your primary responsibility will be to lead the projects in support of the next releases of the biosensor system, including improvements to existing instruments and software. And you will be responsible for evaluating and bringing new technologies into the technology platform. As a leader within the R&D team you will also specify, develop, and maintain the relevant enabling processes and tools, and be a champion for the continuous improvement of all aspects of Quality.



  • Lead projects on the technical design, optimization, verification and validation of biosensor systems. 
  • Define instrumentation engineering projects to improve product operation and total equipment reliability.
  • Provide leadership to the team to identify, study, propose, and implement. 
  • Prioritize and execute tasks with available resources.
  • Ensure compliance with DHF and DMR technical documents requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise during troubleshooting and corrective actions after instrument failure events, helping to establish root cause and the best solution to restore the normal operation. 
  • Work with all disciplines within the company to resolve technical issues related to product development, performance, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Follow the cycle of procurement processes for contracting and materials and service requisition where required so that all technical requirements are addressed properly 
  • Follow internal QMS, including standard operating procedures, work instructions and training on laboratory activities.
  • Prepare progress reports for the CTO and the Management Team.
  • Timely and effectively communicate any deviations from the design and procedures, as well as unexpected results or events that may affect project timelines 
  • Supervise junior member(s) of staff.
  • Perform other responsibilities to support the needs of the company as assigned.  

Requested competences and skills:

Technical skills:

  • You have a Master’s degree in engineering, physics, biotechnology, system engineering or other relevant field.
  • You have around 7 years of work experience in an advanced engineering role.
  • Skillful in all relevant engineering and technical procedures and use of equipment and software. You have an understanding of the the associated responsibilities, tasks, and essential procedures and documentation needs.
  • Experience in project management and software testing is desirable.
  • Experience with working in an ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and/or GLP environment is a big plus.
  • Your English, both written and verbal, is excellent.
